Specialty piano moving by trained crews
Pianos are not furniture — they are precision instruments that weigh 300 to 1,200 pounds and contain thousands of moving parts. A standard moving crew without piano experience risks damage to the instrument, the property, or themselves. Our piano movers are specifically trained for the weight, balance, and handling requirements of every type.
What we move
- Upright pianos (300–500 lbs) — tipped onto a piano board, strapped, blanket-wrapped, and dollied to the truck.
- Baby grands (500–600 lbs) — legs removed, lid secured, body wrapped in blankets and shrink wrap, transported on its side on a piano board.
- Grand pianos (700–1,200 lbs) — full disassembly (legs, lid, lyre, music desk), blanket and pad wrapping, piano board with ratchet straps, and climate cover.
- Digital pianos and organs — treated as fragile electronics with appropriate padding and upright transport.
Equipment we bring
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Piano board (skid board) | Supports the instrument for dolly transport and truck loading |
| Heavy-duty ratchet straps | Secures the piano to the board and inside the truck |
| Moving blankets (quilted pads) | Full wrap to prevent scratches and dings |
| Climate cover | Protects finish from temperature swings during transport |
| Stair-climbing dolly | For walk-ups and split-level access |
| Floor runners + door jamb protectors | Prevents property damage during transit through the home |
Stairway and tight-access pianos
Many North Shore homes have narrow stairwells and tight doorways that complicate piano delivery. We measure every access point before move day — doorways, stairwell turns, landing widths, and exterior entry clearance. If the piano will not fit through a standard entry, we discuss alternatives (window hoisting, exterior lift, or alternate access points) before committing to the job.
We do not charge a fee for the estimate. If we determine the move is not safe for the instrument or the property, we will tell you — we would rather decline a job than risk damage.
